As one of the most interesting figures in what is arguably the most fascinating clique to surface in recent years, Syd the Kid is sort of like an interviewers dream (or nightmare, if you suck). Luckily our friends at Mass Appeal know how to communicate with someone like Syd, asking her all the right questions on her musical upbringing, her identity, Odd Future... and something called "Pizza Wave." MA: Who is your she-ro?

S: (Without hesitation) Erykah. Erykah Badu.

MA: [What about] Lauryn Hill? Missy Elliott?

S: I could say Lauryn Hill, because I grew up on Miseducation… Yeah, but I grew up on Erykah! Erykah is just the queen to me. I respect the fuck out of Lauryn Hill. Missy Elliott, yeah. Me and Matt are trying to be like the new Missy and Tim[baland]. We listen to them all the time, so it’s hard to not try to think of ourselves. It’s an inspirational thing; we’re our own group for sure, but… (Laughs)
