Steve Harvey To Host 'Showtime At The Apollo' Special On Fox This Winter

Harlem's Apollo Theater is nothing short of an institution. In 82 years of service, The Apollo's legendary, blood-and-sweat-soaked stage has played host to some of the earliest memories of the most iconic musicians and comedians the world has ever known. It was the crown of the chitlin circuit and a go-to for artists like James Brown (where he recorded his groundbreaking live album in 1962, plus two subsequent installments a decade later) B.B. KingStevie Wonder  and Parliament-Funkadelic amongst countless r&b and soul luminaries.

But it was the theater's Amateur Night and its beloved program Showtime At The Apollo that is perhaps its most memorable stint. And though it left the air in 2008 after a 21 year run, Fox has revived the show for a series of two-hour specials and has hooked former host, Steve Harvey, for the reboot. The first special will air on Monday, December 5th, and though no performers have been announced just yet, we're sure we can expect details to begin rolling out anytime now. No word on whether they'll be bringing back The Sandman, but it would be much appreciated.
