Spike Lee Will Finally Receive An Oscar At This Year's Awards (Kind Of)

Listen, Spike Lee and the the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences aren't exactly the best of friends, particularly in knowing the acclaimed director's rightful stance on their winning profile. But the folks that bring us the bald gold statues seem poised to make it up to the prolific director this year, without him ever even stepping on stage. The AMPAS will bestow upon Lee an honorary Oscar at this year's ceremony, despite not having been nominated for any awards from the academy since his 1998 documentary 4 Little Girls and the bonafide classic Do The Right Thing in 1989 before that, honoring a prolific legacy as one of the cinematic community's most biting, most socially and politically charged creators of film. This year's ceremony will take place February 28th in Los Angeles and has a hefty deliberation process ahead of them, with Brooklyn, Carol and Inside Out seeming to be the year's frontrunners and films like Straight Outta Compton, Mad Max : Fury Road and Youth as notable contenders that could very well rally in the months to come. Then again, Spike's Chiraq is also well underway...
