“Speaking Of ‘No Chill'”: CNN’s Angela Rye Confronts GOP Hypocrisy

Angela Rye on the right

UPDATE: Following Angela Rye’s comment that “Barack Obama had to be the next best thing to Jesus,” in addressing the double standard between him and his successor Donald Trump, Conservative talk radio host and former Rep. Joe Walsh took to Twitter to argue against Rye, saying that Obama was held to a lower standard during his two terms because he is black.

The Twitter discourse ultimately led to an argument that continued on CNN, during which Rye called Walsh a bigot for his insulting claims.

“I am not interested in trying to convince and change the mind of a bigot, someone who will openly troll me and say things that are offensive that he knows are not true,” Rye told CNN host Brooke Baldwin. “I’m not interested in having a dialogue with someone like Joe, who has demonstrated a propensity towards bigotry, and he did that on Twitter yesterday, in 140 characters or less.”

A CNN commentator spoke out against the Republican party failing to hold Donald Trump accountable for unfounded claims he has made against Barack Obama.

Speaking with several other commentators, Angela Rye voiced her displeasure with the allegation that Obama wiretapped Trump Tower during the 2016 presidential election (her remarks begin at the four-minute mark).

“Instead of us talking about missing D.C. girls, instead of us talking about a white supremacist that killed a black man and had plans to kill more black people just because of who they were, instead of us talking about the healthcare debacle, we’re talking about something that didn’t happen — that your president can’t even spell,” Rye said.

“The bigger issue that I have, speaking about having ‘no chill,’ is that if this would have been under the Obama administration, there would be no end to this,” she continued. “Barack Obama had to be the next best thing to Jesus…and here we are, just two months in and some change, and there is issue after issue.”

Trump’s claims first began in early March, through the following tweets.

“Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my ‘wires tapped’ in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism,” Trump wrote.

“Is it legal for a sitting President to be ‘wiretapping’ a race for president prior to an election? Turned down by court earlier. A now low,” Trump added. “I’d bet a good lawyer could make a great case out of the fact that President Obama was tapping my phones in October, just prior to Election!”

However, it seems as if Obama is unbothered by any of this. He will be traveling to the South Pacific island of Tetiaroa (the island was once owned by actor Marlon Brando), where he will begin writing about his eight years as the 44th President of the United States.
