In the recent interview, the rapper also shares why he originally posted the now-viral video.

Snoop Dogg has finally spoken out about his vulgar rant responding to Gayle King’s recent interview with Lisa Leslie on Jada Pinkett Smith’s Red Table Talk. His derogatory commentary took place after King asked Leslie about Bryant’s rape trial from 2003. During the interview, he claims that his now-viral clip was all about “respect.” Bryant and eight others including his daughter were killed in a recent helicopter crash.

Before Snoop clears the air Smith makes it clear that she reached out to him to create a dialogue between black men and women. On the incident, he said, “I wanted to make sure that the message was across that, ‘We love Kobe,’ and, ‘be respectful of Vanessa and those kids.”

He also shares, “That’s what the whole intent was, ‘protect that woman and them babies over there because she’s still grieving. Let’s give them that respect.’”

On the viral incident and his relationship with Bryant, he also said:

“I let my emotions get the best of me. I was frustrated on top of just venting and doing it the wrong way. Kobe was like the son and the brother to Los Angeles that we all needed and we loved him for that. From the early ‘90s to his last days of playing basketball we watched him grow into a man, a father, a mentor, [and] a leader.”

Later in the interview, he also touched on him sharing he didn’t mind being checked but he did receive a lot of support, especially since he is a black man. “When this thing happened with Gayle I got calls from Puff Daddy, Tyler Perry, Van Jones, and powerful black men,” he said.

“They didn’t bash me, they said ‘brother we got your back if you need [anything].” He also shared that these men told him he could have shared his thoughts differently.

Snoop publicly apologized on February 12 via a social media video, King has reportedly accepted his apology.
