In a report from the Chicago-Sun Times, the incident took place at a Starbucks in Chicago, when someone apparently spilled some coffee on Boucher’s pants. Boucher, 24, then went on a tirade, allegedly spitting on Gerald Mitchell, 30, and a 34-year-old woman, both of whom are black, as well as telling another person “Shut up, slave.”
After starting to walk away Boucher punched a homeless man, which resulted in him being grabbed by Mitchell and another man and being taken to the ground.

“He said a lot of stuff that didn’t make it on the video,” Mitchell said. “I try to see the good in people. I don’t know his background. I would try to give him the benefit of the doubt. I just know it was downright wrong. Disgusting.”
Boucher was initially only charged with three misdemeanor counts of battery, but now faces felony hate crime charges. Now he faces four counts of aggravated battery in a public place and four counts of committing a hate crime. His bail was set at $50,000 and he was released Monday after posting the requisite 10 percent of his bail.
A Starbucks spokesperson said in a statement regarding the incident: “We have absolutely no tolerance for this type of behavior in our stores, and are grateful to the partners (employees) and customers who stepped in to help until officers arrived.”
