OKP Premiere: Sheila Brody Sheds The Veil Of Funkenstein w/ The 'Mississippi' EP

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

Sheila Brody may have been introduced to the world as one of George Clinton's hand-picked Brides Of Funkenstein, but after over a decade of Dance Chart-smashing it's clear the veil has been lifted and the vocalist is perhaps more comfortable in her skin than ever. Recently she's been working with Bomb Squad and Public Enemy production royalty Gary G-Wiz, churning out gooey and uplifting grooves that borrow from the finest, but shines all its own. OKP has the honor of premiering the fruit of those sessions, which manifested in the form of her dynamic and endlessly soulful 5-track EP Mississippi.

This collection struts everything from the unbridled (see what what I did there) bluesy funk of Starchild himself on the title-track to the more creeping, soul-drenched ballads like the EP's closer "Everything." There's even something for the more electronically inclined audible pallets with the dance-floor ready cut "I Want To Tell You." It's a clean break from the drug-addled melancholia of contemporary r&b, shining light on how joyful it could all be. Get a taste of that sunshine with a free stream of Mississippi below. The album will be available via Chuck D's SPITdigital imprint on August 26th so be sure to cop when it hits shelves.
