Earlier this year, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings unveiled a festive (and sho nuff funky) seventh studio outing with It’s A Holiday Soul Party. It’s given us perhaps the single greatest Hanukkah song the world has ever known and serves as the perfect musical accompaniment to any ugly sweater party or holiday throw-down the world over.
But we’ve yet to really see the holiday soul at work in any sort of live and direct treatment. That is until yesterday when NPR shared a short and potent new session with the soul revivalists, stunting three cuts from their seasonal sonic suite in “Silent Night,” 8 Days (Of Hanukkah)” and “Big Bulbs as a necessary and proper cap on the affair. Watch as Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings throw a holiday soul party on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert below and grab a copy of their latest record on iTunes if it’s good to ya.
