The Scarfaceremake has lost its director.

In a report from Variety, Antoine Fuqua has left his role as Scarface's director to begin preproduction work on a new Equalizer film.

However, in its loss of Fuqua the movie has gained an actor — Diego Luna. That is right, the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story standout is now tied to the project (although it is unknown who he will be playing).

The forthcoming Scarface remake serves as the third iteration of the film, with the last one featuring the iconic portrayal of Tony Montana by Al Pacino. This one will likely borrow the same plot from its predecessors, but there is one difference that has been announced in regards to the movie. Rather than the setting being in Miami, the film will be in Los Angeles and will focus on a Mexican immigrant.

The Scarface remake has been in the works for the past four years, and was even tentatively scheduled for a release back in 2014. Originally, David Ayers (Suicide Squad) was in charge of writing the film's screenplay, but now that role has been given to Terence Winter (Boardwalk Empire). As for producers attached to the movie they are: Marc Shmuger, Scott Stuber, Dylan Clark and Marty Bregman, who produced the 1983 version of Scarface.

Back in 2015 Pacino was asked his thoughts on the remake by The Hollywood Reporter, to which he responded "Oh, it's fine."

"It's part of what we do. We remake things," Pacino added.

The last movie that Fuqua released was last year's remake of The Magnificent Seven. Although not well received critically, the film ended up being a box office hit, earning $35 million in box office sales in its opening weekend. The movie was also the third biggest opening for its leading man Denzel Washington (the other two being American Gangster and Safe House).
