Black Thought Says The Roots Picnic Coming To NYC
Photos by Averie Cole for Okayplayer
For nine years now, The Legendary Roots Crew has brought their annual Roots Picnic to their hometown of Philadelphia. But on Saturday, Black Thought announced that New York City will get love too.
While on stage at The Roots Picnic on Saturday, Black Thought said that the crew planned to bring the event to New York City for the first time. Details are still unclear. Does this mean the annual festival will be moved out of Philly? Or that New York City will have different events throughout the year under the Roots Picnic banner?
Either way, it's guaranteed to be a good time. This year's Roots Picnic, which was at Festival Pier in Philadelphia, continued the legacy established with previous years. A stacked lineup that included Usher (pictured above with Black Thought), DMX, Future, Leon Bridges, Anderson .Paak, and Kaytranada brought A-game performances, and stars like Will Smith and Lil Jon made surprise guest appearances to perform "Summertime" and "Yeah!," respectively. The Roots Picnic has maintained a high standard as a highlight of the music festival season every year, so news of the banner brand making its way to New York City can only be great news.
Okayplayer will keep you updated on further details about The Roots Picnic's arrival to New York City.
