Prince's Autopsy Is Complete, But What Has Been Discovered?
Prince‘s passing stunned us all, as fans, fellow musicians, politicians and music lovers all over quickly wanted to learn why the music icon died. An autopsy was quickly conducted on Friday, the day after his death, at the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office in Ramsey, Minnesota. While it could be days or weeks before the results are available for public consumption, Martha Weaver, spokeswoman for the examiner’s office, said that the autopsy began at 9:00 a.m. CT (10 a.m. ET) and lasted for four hours.
Jim Olson, the sheriff at Carver County, told reporters that there were no obvious signs of trauma on Prince’s body when he was found. “There is no reason to believe that Prince’s death was a suicide,” Olson said. According to the medical examiner’s office, no information will be released until the exam is complete and all results are obtained. It is significantly unclear how long Prince was in the elevator, and Sheriff Olson wouldn’t say whether or not there were surveillance cameras in the building.
“Because this was an unwitnessed death of a middle-aged adult, the decision was made to process the scene. That is also normal protocol. It is not different from what we normally would do,” Olson said. The sheriff also would not say whether or not investigators removed any items of importance from the building. He also could not confirm or deny whether Prince was taking any medication at the time of his death. “We are going to leave no stone unturned with this and make sure the public knows what happened,” Sheriff Olson vowed.
Prince, whose full name was Prince Rogers Nelson, passed away last Thursday at age 57. His death was immensely upsetting after word was revealed that he was found unresponsive in an elevator within his Paisley Park home and recording studio in Chanhassen, Minnesota. Paramedics attempted CPR but were unable to revive him, authorities said. He was pronounced dead at 10:07 a.m., less than 30 minutes after sheriff deputies responded to a medical call at the scene.
Prince’s body was released to his family last Friday.
