OKP Premiere: Habit Blcx Wrestles For Control In His Video For "Everything"

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

In his new music video for "Everything," Los Angeles-based MC Habit Blcx moves through a party stuck on pause, frozen in the mid-turn up, bottles tipped and eyes already half-glazed. We're taken off of all beaten paths and into a tagged-up abandoned warehouse in the middle of a forest--an apparent party spot as urbane as it is wild, where the locals go to get some distance from reality. Habit Blcx appears as a kind of apparation--a ghost in streetwear who tries to lead them away from the mess, the trendy high, the predictable crash to come.

"Everything" hangs on the refrain "Everything I want, isn't always what I need" and sneaks a kind, almost brotherly offering of solidarity in over its club-ready beat. It's a pushback against temptation, trends and detachment--Habit Blcx putting himself out there in hopes that we will, too. "Everything" appears on the MC's his excellent Progress is a Process EP, which dropped early this year. The MC (whose name stands for Believe Love Create X (the X being unknown)) self-identifies as a scholar and art enthusiast, and as such social commentary finds its way into his music via intriguing angles. Okayplayer is very happy to present the world premiere of his "Everything" video; watch it below and pick up Progress is a Processvia bandcamp.
