If there’s one thing we’ve learned in the near two decade stretch that’s been Pharrell‘s hit-making career, it’s that dude’s got virtually universal appeal. He and Chad Hugo laid the foundation for acts like The Internet, Frank Ocean, Miguel and the gamut of hip-hop and r&b’s most forward-minded musicians with the advent of the The Neptunes Sound (bleeps, bloops and synth galore.)
Since The Neptunes rap-game takeover, Pharrell has transformed into a full-blown icon with an uncanny ability to transmit to folks of all ages. Case in point: a recent appearance on Sesame Street, where Skateboard P informs Elmo and Cookie Monster of the transcendent power of reading in a song aptly-titled “B Is For Book.” The unlikely pairing prove to be a formidable team, and seeing as how Pharrell looks like he’s barely escaped his adolescence, it just kinda works. He joins artists like Janelle Monae and Ice Cube, who have also brought their talents to the PBS staple over the years. You can watch Pharrell, Elmo and Cookie Monster join forces in the clip below.
