Pharrell’s “Blurred Lines” Deposition Will Make You Want To Donate To Music Schools

Just when you thought you’d never hear the words “Blurred Lines” again, The Hollywood Reporter goes and digs up what has to be the single most unflattering and potentially highly-damaging deposition footage imaginable.

That’s right, for the first time since the now infamous court proceedings began and came full-circle to a fitting, but certainly problematic conclusion, you can watch Pharrell’s heated-to-high-hell response to a line of questioning that, on its face, is certainly offensive to a producer of P’s caliber. The Virginia native who’s given us hit-after-damn-hit for almost two decades and running should not be belittled as such, but what is perhaps even more off-putting is just how little the perennial chart-smasher seems to knows about writing music.

Though he’s long-claimed to be able to read notation charts, after being grilled on the subject and subsequently asked to read a chart presented to him, Skateboard P shows seismic resistance to actually displaying the ability, repeatedly answering “I’m uncomfortable,” unwilling to even attempt a fairly elementary display of his understanding of chord structures and patterns. (Hold up, and what exactly was “bluegrass” about “Blurred Lines” in the first place?)

Not that this should be some sort of revelation to you all (I mean, there are countless acts at the top of the pops, now and throughout history, that cannot and have never claimed to be able to read or write music) but this might just have you rushing to the donation box of your local music school to invest in our nation’s musical future. It’s a tough one, but you can watch Pharrell’s “Blurred Lines” deposition below. Oh, and if you need any more reason to ex-communicate Robin Thicke from your inner-R&B-circle, you can now watch clips from his own deposition as well.

Good luck shaking that one off!
