Watch A Snippet From Kasper Collin's New Lee Morgan Documentary

There's a riveting Lee Morgan documentary making rounds on the festival circuit this year. Director and producer Kasper Collin devoted the last sever years to his sophomore documentary outing, I Called Him Morgan, a follow up to his last jazz doc, 2006's My Name Is Albert Ayler. Here Collin explores the embattled relationship between the teenage trumpet prodigy (who played with Art Blakey and Dizzy Gillespie before his 1972 death) and Morgan's wife, Helen, (who infamously shot and killed her husband at a performance in NYC.)

The doc strings together archival footage of performances and interviews and appears to play out as more of a murder mystery than cut-and-dry documentary treatment. And though no official release date has been announced for the project as of yet, a short clip has surfaced ahead of its screening at the London Film Festival this Friday, October 7th, following this past week's unveiling at the New York Film Festival. Watch Lee Morgan play with Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers in a snippet from I Called Him Morgan below and be sure to hold tight for details on the film's official release. This one's a must for jazz heads and general musical junkies alike.
