The first wave of reviews for Flying Lotus‘ feature-length debut are in. And, like most things we’ve already seen from the film, they’re not pretty. Kuso, described “semi-connected short films chronicling the lives of the mutated women, men, and children of Los Angeles” is not for the faint-hearted or weak-stomached. Some critics have put it in league with visionary films like Alejandro Jodorowsky’s The Holy Mountain and David Lynch’s Eraserhead.
But other outlets are claiming that the disgust was all too real. Resident Advisor reports, that members of the audience were seen walking out, some even taking advantage of the barf bags distributed ahead of the screening. FlyLo quickly stepped into to dispel the headline:
It’s still too early to tell whether this one’ll stick around as long as those referenced, but even with all of the abhorrent hot-takes, it seems incumbent upon any Flying Lotus fan to stick around and see how dude’s gears grind in a long-form visual medium. Not like his music video game has been anything but stellar. No word on when or how the film will be distributed, but surely the director will find a way.
