Pass The Popcorn: City Of God - 10 Years Later

The 2002 crime-drama City of God impressed and distressed the world all at once, with it's vivid depictions of life during the rise of Brazilian organized crime from the late 60s to the early 80s. Told through the stories of two favela kids- one who grows up to become a photojournalist and the other a drug dealer - this movie is one of the best movies of the last decade (if you haven't seen this, wake the ufck up). The thing that made the movie so real though wasn't just the fantastic directing by Fernando Meirelles and Kátia Lund...it was the fact that most of the actors were picked up straight out of Brazilian streets, some even from the titular "city" itself.

10 years later and we have well, a sequel in some sense, to the incredible City of God. This documentary, by Cavi Borges and Luciano Vidigal, shows the fates of the protagonists from the original film. Since many of them were youngins brought in off the streets of Rio, the movie undoubtedly changed their lives as well as the shape of Brazilian cinema and the way Brazilian culture is depicted throughout the world. And even though this trailer apparently dropped earlier this year, it's only just made its way across the OKP desk, right in time for its release at the end of 2012. Check the extended "trailer" below and really - I mean REALLY - watch City of God if you've never seen it. Watch it again even if you have.
