Oprah Winfrey To Join '60 Minutes' As Special Contributor

Oprah Winfrey has gotten a promotion. The talk show host, actress and overall media mogul will be serving as a special contributor on CBS News' 60 minutes.

Winfrey will make her series debut on a Sunday night broadcast this fall, according to Jeff Fager, 60 Minutes' executive producer.

"There is only one Oprah Winfrey," Fager said in a statement released today. "She has achieved excellence in everything she has touched. Her body of work is extraordinary, including thousands of interviews with people from all walks of life. She is a remarkable and talented woman with a level of integrity that sets her apart and makes her a perfect fit for 60 Minutes. I am thrilled that she will be bringing her unique and powerful voice to our broadcast."

"I'm so excited and proud to join forces with this historic news program, which for me represents the bastion of journalistic storytelling," Winfrey added. "At a time when people are so divided, my intention is to bring relevant insight and perspective, to look at what separates us, and help facilitate real conversations between people from different backgrounds."

Recently, Winfrey served as a moderator between filmmaker Ava DuVernay and Van Jones, during a conversation centered around the former's 13th documentary. The chat touched upon a number of topics, including Donald Trump and his supporters.

"For me right now, I don't have a lot of empathy for someone who chooses to put their name next to, raise their hand for, someone who represents violence to another human being," DuVernay said in regards to those that voted for Trump. "I'm challenged that we are not holding people accountable for their vote, for where they are right now. I can't get with the, 'They were left out of the circle so let's help them come back from the dark side.' It's what marginalized people are often asked to do."
