Official Whitney Houston Biopic in the Works, 'The Photograph' Director to Shoot

Clive Davis is working with Houston's estate on the film.

An official Whitney Houston biopic will hit the silver screen relatively soon. On Wednesday, The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that the Houston estate has agreed to produce the film with Clive Davis. The film's working title is I Wanna Dance With Somebody.

According to THR, Whitney's sister-in-law Pat Houston has teamed up with Clive Davis. The two have enlisted screenwriter Anthony McCarten to write the script. McCarten previously wrote the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody. Additionally, the group has chosen The Photograph director Stella Meghie to direct.

In addition to Houston and Davis, Primary Wave Music's Larry Mestel, Denis O'Sullivan, and McCarten will produce the movie. With the support of Houston's estate, filmmakers will be able to use Houston's full catalog. At the moment, the film doesn't have a distribution deal.

Back in January, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announced that Whitney would be enshrined in the Hall of Fame Class of 2020. Other notable inductees include the Notorious B.I.G., Nine Inch Nails, the Doobie Brothers, and Depeche Mode.

McCarten's fellow Bohemian Rhapsody staffer Graham King is already working on another major biopic. This past November, THR revealed that King will oversee production for the official Michael Jackson biopic.
