New Royce Da 5'9" Song Proves That He's A Force Beyond Nature
Although Royce Da 5’9″ may be best known for his associations to Detroit, Eminem and Carlos “6 July” Broady, the super-talented lyricist manages to dazzle on his own quite frequently. After body-bagging a track which featured fellow legendary wordsmith, Black Thought, earlier this month — Royce is delivering fierce bars as if he trapped in a cage with a gazelle and his words are pride of lions.
Leaking on Ambrosia For Heads as an early holiday gift, “They Don’t Make Them Like This Anymore” serves as an ominous reminder of the Motor City MC’s devastating lyrical ability. “I wanted to do something different for the people who’ve always supported me and my music, so I gave out my number and to everyone who texted me I sent them the song before I sent it to anyone else,” he said in a statement about the track.
Based on the artwork alone, Royce could be hinting at more work brewing on the horizon.
“They say the clock’s tickin’,” Royce says, opening his first verse with a declarative statement, which has us thinking that it may be an indicator that something new (possibly with DJ Premier) is forthcoming. Ultimately, “They Don’t Make Them Like This Anymore” proves that Royce Da 5’9″ can promise that death is certain to any lackluster MC attempting to clutch the mic.
