Netflix Announces Standup Comedy Festival Featuring Dave Chappelle, Martin Lawrence & More

The weeklong festival will take place at over 20 venues in Los Angeles.

Netflix announces a weeklong comedy festival headlined by Dave Chappelle.  The weeklong series of events entitled the "Netflix Is A Joke" festival will consist of over 100 live shows at over 20 venues in Los Angeles, it will take place from April 27 through May 3. Other big names involved in the festivities include Kevin Hart, Martin Lawrence, Chris Rock and many, many more.

According to Variety, locations include the Hollywood Bowl, the Greek Theatre, the Hollywood Palladium and The Largo. Additional acts set to take the stage include David Letterman, Whoopi Goldberg, Ali Wong, and Sarah Silverman to name a few others. Chappelle will headline with a performance at the Hollywood Bowl. An LGBTQ+ comedy showcase is also set to take place featuring Wanda Sykes, Hannah Gadsby and Graham Norton.

The streaming platform is also partnering with Comedy Gives Back, a nonprofit organization founded to create a safety net for comedians in need. The organization offers assistance with mental health, medical and financial crises.

Netflix’s chief content officer released the following statement on the upcoming festival:

"It’s our honor to transform LA for one week into the funniest place on earth. This festival is a unique celebration of the art of comedy, and the role it plays in reflecting our lives and defining culture. It’s a chance for comedy lovers to come together and see their favorite artists as well as discover new ones, and for us to be able to share the electricity and excitement of the festival in Los Angeles with Netflix members around the world."

In remembrance of comedians the industry has lost, the "Netflix Is A Joke" festival is also set to present “The Hall.” This event will honor titans like Richard Pryor and Robin Williams. Specific performances will be recorded and available to stream via Netflix at a later date.
