Netflix Buys Worldwide Rights To Michaela Coel-Starring Musical Film, “Been So Long”
The binge-watching juggernaut has copped the rights to Been So Long, which is in post-production and stars Chewing Gum’s Michaela Coel.
Despite Chewing Gum not returning for another season, Michaela Coel is still out here shining and gleaming. The performer’s newest project, Been So Long, a musical movie that tells the story of a single mom (Coel) who meets a man (Arinzé Kene) on a night out in Camden, north London—has just been bought by Netflix.
Screen Daily was the first to break the news of the acquisition and stated that the movie was picked up in a “multi-million dollar deal”. It also believed that the purchase was Netflix’s largest single acquisition in U.K.’s film history. Directed by Tinge Krishnan, Been So Long has a supporting cast that includes Joe Dempsie, George MacKay, Ronke Adekoluejo, Luke Norris and Ashley Thomas.
A release date for the film is still to be determined, but the film’s soundtrack has already caught the buzz as it was described as featuring “a diverse mix of R&B, soul, U.K. dance and cinematic orchestration.”
