Okayfuture TV: Mr. Vegas + Ricky Blaze x Mixpak Live

dancehall reggae star Mr. Vegas live at Okayfuture x Mixpak's CMJ bashment

Is there TV in the future? If there is, it definitely is/will be showing dancehall star Mr. Vegas and Brooklyn producer of Gyptian and Santigold hits Ricky Blaze, wilding out with Jubilee, Dre Skull and a gang of Mixpak DJs. That's essentially what happened a week or two back when Mixpak Records and our own Okayfuture channel teamed up for a CMJ event that accidentally turned into an unofficial LargeUp-style bashment. Besides being a prolific EDM producer Mixpak label head Dre Skull also happens to have helmed Vybz Kartel's last release Kingston Story and has one foot firmly in the world of Jamaican music. When Dre asked his brothers in riddim Ricky & Vegas to come through and join the DJs at Mixpak's CMJ blowout, a few whines did bruk, if you take my meaning. A few weeks ago Ricky Blaze and Mr Vegas came to NYC for a Mixpak showcase and lit up CMJ 2013 alongside Dre Skull, Jubilee, and The Large.  Mixpak producers Dre Skulland Dubbeldutch have been laying down groundwork on cross hybridizing electronic x dancehall.  Dreskull is known for being one of the most in-demand dancehall producers on the Jamaican scene doing the bulk of smash album cuts for Vybz Kartel and also co-producing Snoop Lion alongside Diplo. He infuses electronic and hip hop elements, refashioning them to create a contemporary landscape for emcee/toasters. Co-label mate Dubbeldutch is one of the most interesting and boundary-pushing producers, often combining three elements of R&B, electronic producion and global bass/tropical sounds.
