Mr. Cee Comes Clean On His Sexual Encounters & Hot97 Resignation + Back On The Box Mix

Wow. Y'all know we are not that type of rap blog. We didn't post anything when legendary DJ Mister Cee's personal scandals threatened to overshadow his incredible contribution to hip-hop music; the man has stood alongside the icons of multiple eras of hip-hop, put in work for everyone from Big Daddy Kane and the Notorious B.I.G.--right down to breaking new and underground artists on the radio today. Well right up 'til yesterday, anyway, when Mister Cee resigned on the air during the broadcast of his Old School At Noon mixshow, a reaction to yet another revelation of sexual misconduct. For the record, we still didn't post anything. But this morning Cee, Hot 97 program director Ebro Darden and Funkmaster Flex had a conversation on the air that hip-hop has been waiting a looong time for.

We will not now--or at any point--be posting video or audio of people being called out or outed, nor "news" posts airing people's personal demons for the amusement of the internet. But I would be lying if I said we were not listening and bugging out over this in the Okayplayer office, and we would be remiss if we didn't acknowledge Cee's bravery for stepping up to the mic and laying his soul bare for an audience that we all know can be unforgiving, if not downright hateful. Beyond the fact that Cee for the first time acknowledged the truth of the various allegations made about his sexual encounters, I won't say too much about the content of the interview--if only because you all should listen to Cee define himself in his own words. But I will say, that while I believe this convo probably ended a personal nightmare for Cee, the bigger conversation about sexuality, power--and yes, race--is obviously just starting for hip-hop as a whole. The main take-away though is this: the truth shall set you free. One more spoiler alert: having got the truth off his chest, Cee officially un-resigned and returned to do his mixshow at noon today. Scroll down to find the audio of his Back On The Box mix below the interview audio.
