Westside Gunn - Supreme Blientele

Westside Gunn’s Supreme Blientele is being hailed as one of the best projects to hit the streets this year. Coming from one of the most respected spitters to put on for true hardcore east coast hip-hop, that should be no surprise. Features from Jadakiss, Elzhi, Crimeapple, Busta Rhymes, Roc Marciano and Anderson.Paak only sweeten the deal.

Al Divino - DUMPGAWD: Divino Edition Vol. 1

Al Divino’s 2017 Dumpgawd tape gets a reboot with the addition of three new tracks and a re-release as DUMPGAWD: Divino Edition Volume 1. With production from Sadhugold, Graymatter, Thelonious Martin, HNIC and Divino himself, the quality of the first volume bodes well for what’s to come. Nevermind the features.

QThree - Pitch Black

Keeping the heat coming in 2018, QThree drops his fourth project of the year with the Pitch Black EP. Arguably his hardest yet, the nine-track offering anchored by his monotone growl and gutter production features appearances from B.A.K.E.D. compatriots Mark Ryan, Drip and Atar’e Godspeed.

Mista Monotone - Empty Clip: The M.O.P Story

Taking a slight break from rap projects, DJ Tony Tone celebrates an iconic rap duo with Empty Clip: The M.O.P. Story.

I PUT THIS TOGETHER TO ROCK! It's that simple. I didn't put it together to sell to the masses. The masses don't get M.O.P...and I like it that way. Not that I don't want M.O.P to be successful - I just want them to stay the way they are - hardcore & underground. Remember when being hardcore & underground was respectable? Remember when Nas & Jay Z were "ours"? It's easy to forget ain't it? This is for the fans...like you & me. Some of these are the certified bangers, some are album tracks & some are collabos you may not have heard. I also managed to sneak in a few original joints. Oh yeah, I did a little DJ Premier impression in the intro (give me some more tracks and an engineer? watch out nah!!). Anyway, nuff said...hope you get as much bang from this as I do! Salute!

Queen Jo - Some Women Are From Mars

Embracing masculinity, femininity and all-around badassery, Philadelphia spitter and Jo Darling alum Queen Jo takes a nuanced approach to love in the present future on her brand new eight-track slapper Some Women Are From Mars.

Some Women Are From Mars" is Queen Jo's account of dating as a millennial; where the men seem foreign and she learns to embrace her divine masculinity as much as her femininity. Navigating through this lens, she is able to interpret that love equates to respect and she's demanding it with a rage that is not set in Venus, the Goddess of love, but rather of Mars, the God of War.

Kev Brown - Homework

Thirteen years after his 2005 Up Above Records debut I Do What I Do, lyricist and producer Kev Brown scoffs at any hint of a sophomore slump with Homework. The introspective, sample-based record is a twenty-nine track clinic in Kev Brown’s singular aesthetic that was well worth the wait.

quickly, quickly - Over Skies

Rising Portland producer quickly, quickly marks his debut with the five-track Over Skies EP. Described by Passion Of The Weiss as “a lush reimagining of childhood, a refracted look at hip-hop from an obsessive actively documenting his entrance into the genre,” the project is the second release to surface from producer Ta-Ku’s 823 label.

DJ Harrison - UntilThen...

Fresh from Jellowstone HQ with a new batch of beats, Butcher Brown’s DJ Harrison drops the thirteen-track tape entitled UntilThen… Track titles like “IncenseSmoke,” “CoffeeGrounds,” “SparkRoach” and “SpiceRack” evoke mundane scenes of everyday life as easily as they read like a nod to MF DOOM’s Special Herbs. Melancholy, melodic and laidback, UntilThen… combines samba, trap and boom-bap percussion with a variety of loops.

B. Lewis - Strange Things

A little bonus this week in honor of a 7-inch vinyl re-release, San Jose producer B. Lewis’ “Strange Things” closes the roundup. One year after the arrival of Lewis’ debut vocal performance, Bay Area label Needle To The Groove gives the single a boost with a limited-edition white vinyl physical release.
