DJ Mos x DJ KISS - Popcorn Love (The Best of New Edition Mix)

The set also includes a nod to the folks over at Brownswood Records with tracks from Dayme Arocena and Gilles Peterson’s Havana Cultura Band.

Nicholas Payton - Afro-Caribbean Mixtape

GRAMMY Award-winning trumpeter, pianist and composer, Nicholas Payton, delivers "Postmodern New Orleans Music" on The Afro-Caribbean Mixtape. Released on February 10th, the mixtape derived from a variety of influences features Payton alongside keyboardist Kevin Hays, bassist Vicente Archer, drummer Joe Dyson, percussionist Daniel Sadownick, and turntablist DJ Lady Fingaz.

"I’ve been thinking of the resilience of Black people and African culture,” Payton says of the gestation of Afro-Caribbean Mixtape. “How Africans came on ships to ports in the Caribbean. How those rhythms from Africa got dropped off at points like Haiti and Cuba and Puerto Rico. How those influences and elements sauntered on to New Orleans, which many consider the northern-most part of the Caribbean, and on to Kansas City, St. Louis, Chicago and then New York. How, with the advent of the phonograph, this New Orleans music became the world’s first popular music as the result of this new medium. How Louis Armstrong became the world’s first pop star, the Michael Jackson of his era. How the music in this African tribal DNA, as I call it, contains all the codes that connect all people—not only all Black or African people—throughout the world."

John Gomez - Rush Hour Store Mix 015

NTS Radio’s John Gomez takes the reigns for the fifteenth installment of the Rush Hour Store mix series. Armed with a bevy of fresh selections, Gomez delivers over one hour of solid gold. Seventeen tracks deep, the mix includes songs from Eska, Arthur Russell, Ivan Conti, Ryo Kawasaki, Dijf Sanders, Gerardo Batiz and more.

DJ Hourglass - In Time (Side A + B) Mix

Atlanta’s own DJ Hourglass delivers a candid love letter with the two-part In Time mix. The A side entitled The Infatuation Phase and the B side entitled Emotional Savagery encapsulate two drastically different phases in the lifespan of a love affair with tracks from NxWorries, Zikomo, Frank Ocean, Miguel, Matt Martians, Neguim, Elijah Blake, Mila J, Beyonce, Sonny Digital and 6lack.

Huas - Soul Traveller (Down To New Orleans)

Huas presents the inaugural installment of the Soul Traveller mix series with Down To New Orleans, a heavy funk and soul set that celebrates the Crescent City. The mix for Ness Radio features music from the city Huas calls the “home of some of the most beautiful music ever made by mankind.” The mix features tracks from The Gaturs, Professor Longhair, Irma Thomas, Warren Lee, Ernie & The Top Notes and more

Jazzcat - Library Treasures Vol. 1 (Sonor Music Editions)

Jazzcat celebrates the obscure gems in Rome’s Sonor Music Editions catalog with the Library Treasures Vol. 1 mix. The tribute to the label founded in 2013 features the 1970s rare grooves at the foundation of their sync library and soundtrack collection alongside psych, progressive, jazz-funk, breakbeat and cinematic lounge tunes. The statement may be trite, but this mix is an absolute treat for diggers and their wax addict kin.

Orion Anakaris (for Brooklyn Radio) - HJ7 Blends #22

UK beatsmith and Hard Jazz 7 label founder Orion Anakaris delivers an extra special collection of jams in the 22nd installment of his HJ7 Blends mix show for Brooklyn Radio. DJ Ally Al - Free Your Mind : Funkadelic, Westbound 70-75

DJ Ally Al pays tribute to the funk and soul legend Junie Morrison with the Free Your Mind: Funkadelic, Westbound 70-75 mix. Taking it back to the Detroit label that released Funkadelic’s self-titled 1970 debut, Al delivers a guitar heavy retrospective on the iconic funk outfit that spotlights their game-changing Westbound Records output as well as many of his personal favorites.

"First signed to Westbound in '68 and dropped their first album (Funkadelic) in 1970. There were various lineups over the next five years but the quality of the recorded output always remained the same high standard. The mix features music from their first seven albums with Westbound, Funkadelic, Free Your Mind (And Your Ass Will Follow), Maggot Brain, America Eats It Young, Cosmic Slop, Standing on the Verge of Gettin' It On and Let's Take It To The Stage. I didn't include Tales of Kidd Funkadelic because it was released after the band left Westbound for Warner Brothers, and it was contractual obligation as oppose a labour of funky love, plus it was hard enough breaking down seven albums into a mix!!!"

Homeboy Sandman & Peter Rosenberg - LoveLife Mixtape

If you happen to be in the market for new joints and gems from Homeboy Sandman, The Hundreds and Hot 97’s DJ Peter Rosenberg proudly present the LoveLife Mixtape. The 10-track Valentine's Day set is an even split of classics and new material categorized under the subtitles Old Love and New Love. A fire primer on the works of Boy Sand, the mix combines fan favorites with unreleased tracks. LoveLife is a great appetizer ahead of Homeboy Sandman’s forthcoming Veins project, which is due to drop in 2017 via Stones Throw Records.
