Michael Jordan Releases Statement Addressing Police Brutality & Black Communities

Yesterday, Michael Jordan released a statement addressing police brutality and the black communities directly affected, published by The Undefeated. The statement is a careful one, underscoring his relationships with both the victims of police harassment and misconduct as well as the police themselves, noting that his experiences with the force have drastically differed from what those in disparaged communities are subjected to.

He goes on to announce that he's making a sizable donation of $1,000,000 to both the NAACP's Legal Defense Fund and the Institute for Community-Police Relations, which is a new initiative from the International Association of Chiefs of Police that focuses on establishing and enforcing good practices within our nation's police departments. As many know, Jordan resides in rarified air when it comes to athletic moguls, with much of his Jordan Brand profit coming directly from black communities. And while $2 million is certainly a hefty bill, you can't help but feel like he may still be playing the fence by splitting the donation. In any case, it's certainly a generous amount. You can read his full statement by following the link below. Let's hope this money goes towards a measurable, tangible good in the affected communities.
