Megan Thee Stallion Receives Letter of Solidarity from Activists Condemning Violence Against Women
Megan Thee Stallion has received an open letter of support from social activists and influential leaders, denouncing violence against women.
Megan Thee Stallion is receiving a rally of support from social advocates and leaders. On Thursday (November 10), The Southern Black Girls & Women's Consortium published an open letter to Meg as the rapper continues to use her platform to call out violence against women.
"We salute you for the bravery it has taken to defend yourself in the court of public opinion, though you shouldn't have had to do so at all," the letter reads. "We raise our voices against those who have made light of this heinous example of violence against women and will drown them out with our demands for society to take what happens to Black women seriously. You are not alone. You are believed, loved, and supported."
While the letter was written by the Black philanthropy organization, it was signed by the likes of MeToo founder Tarana Burke, and Planned Parenthood CEO Alexis McGill Johnson, activist Tamika Mallory, Congresswoman Maxine Waters and others.
The letter goes to denounce “those who have made light of this heinous example of violence against women," presumably Drake who referenced the July 2020 shooting of Meg on "Circo Loco" from his new collaborative album with 21 Savage, Her Loss.
"This bitch lie about getting shots, but she still a stallion/She don't even get the joke but she still smiling," Drake raps on "Circo Loco."
After the song's release, Meg fired back on Twitter, telling rappers to stop attaching "weak ass conspiracy theories in bars" towards her.
Meg has alleged that rapper-singer Tory Lanez shot her in the foot after a July 2020 house party in Los Angeles, which Lanez denied on social media and his 2020 album DAYSTAR. Also that same year, Lanez was charged with felony assault with a semiautomatic firearm and for carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle. In November 2020, Lanez pleaded not guilty to the assault charge and has an ongoing court case which goes to trial on November 28.
