"Here's the real story."

In February, it was revealed that Mac Miller and Madlib recorded music together for a collaborative project called Maclib before Miller's untimely passing in 2018.

A statement was released via Madlib's Rappcats website on Tuesday confirming that project is an EP, but that "there are no official plans" to release it.

"What exists is what the two had originally intended – an EP’s worth of music that was supposed to be the start of something," the statement reads. "The end point wasn’t planned out or even discussed. The idea was to create for creation’s sake."

"By early 2015 Mac had batches of Madlib’s beats and was recording songs," the statement reads. Madlib would play the songs Miller sent over during his live DJ sets. The two artists began working on music together after Miller recorded a verse for the 2014 Freddie Gibbs and Madlib collaborative album, Piñata.

"Like Jaylib, it was just in the metadata of one of the files he sent over. “MacLib – Number 4” it read. The song still doesn’t have an official title, and there are no official plans to release the EP.
