Lizzo recently announced that she’ll officially be leaving Twitter for a while.
In a tweet she wrote, “Yeah I can’t do this shit no more…too many trolls… I’ll be back when I feel like it.”
Following this tweet she also took to Instagram to dig deeper into why she’s taking a break:
“All social media is not created equal. I would love to be on Twitter ’cause I could connect with you people who positively support me…not to mention spreading my own positive messages. But now I’ve gotten to a point where I’m not just dealing with Internet bullies, I’m dealing with seeing a lot of negativity on the Internet dealing with everyone.”
In 2019 Lizzo experienced a successful breakout year that included reaching the top of the Billboard charts, she received her first-ever No. 1 single. She also was nominated for eight Grammy awards.
Last year was also marked by a bit of controversy for the artist, Mina Lioness was finally credited as a writer on “Truth Hurts” after calling out Lizzo for not accrediting her. Additionally, the singer-songwriter filed a lawsuit in October against three men accusing her of plagiarizing the chart-topping song, reports Pitchfork.
Justin and Jeremiah Raisen and Justin “Yves” Rothman alleged that they co-authored “Truth Hurts.” The three claim that Lizzo used the “melody, lyrics and chords” of a song they worked on together. In a statement she wrote, “The men who claim a piece of ‘Truth Hurts’ did not help me write any part of the song. They had nothing to do with the line or how I chose to sing it.”
