Ms. Lauryn Hill Releases Statement Addressing Absence From 2016 Grammys

About midway through yesterday's pre-Grammys crawl, murmurs began surfacing of a surprise appearance from the one and only, Ms. Lauryn Hill. The appearance was to be a live collaboration between herself and The Weeknd during his performance, but as I'm sure many of you saw, Abel's performance came and went without a Ms. Hill sighting. Today a rep from Ms. Hill's camp has released a statement addressing the absence, insisting that it was the Grammys that jumped the gun in announcing it in the first place. You can read the full statement below and relive the night that Ms. Lauryn Hill took home a couple armfuls of golden gramophones back in '99.

"The Grammy's announced a performance by Ms. Lauryn Hill prematurely and without approval. Ms. Hill had concerts all weekend, leaving no time to prepare, and was uncertain she would even be able to make it to LA in time to rehearse for the event. Any performance that could have happened was never confirmed, and should not have been advertised as such. Ms. Hill was invited to do a collaboration with an artist she appreciates. The performance was intended to be a surprise and unfortunately due to its last minute nature, was unable to come to fruition."
