The three officers are David March, JosephWalsh, and Thomas Gaffney. And, according to the indictment, on October 20th, 2014 they covered for Officer Jason Van Dyke, who shot 17-year-old Laquan McDonald 16 times. The initial report told a tale where McDonald was assaulting the officers. The report claimed that McDonald lunged at Van Dyke with a knife before he was shot down.

However, that story would be proven to be rubbish, when, a year later, dash cam footage released under a court order showed McDonald walking away before Van Dyke started unloading on him. In March, Van Dyke was formally indicted on murder charges.

The three officers are accused of doing things like not trying to track witnesses and  failing to preserve evidence, "including video and photographic evidence."

The officers were not taken into custody but none of the men currently working as officers; Walsh and Marsh are no longer in the force, while Gaffney was suspended indefinitely because of the felony indictment.
