Solange's "Some Things Seem To Never Fucking Work" Gets A Haunting Electronic Rework By Kindness

UK-based musician Adam Bainbridge aka Kindness has already proven his affinity for working with powerful female vocalists. His collaboration with Robyn and funky work with Kelela were must-listens in their own right, but now the British electro-soul creator has returned with perhaps his best connect yet (though to call it a collaboration would be technically a bit of a stretch. Kindness just dropped a cover of Solange's 80s-inspired dance track "Some Things Never Seem To Fucking Work," and it's a thing of strange beauty.

Rather than try to outrun the shimmying of Ms. Knowles's original, Kindness has slowed everything down and delivered a haunting piece of sound. As a gritty synthesizer oscillates underneath, Kindness's breathy vocal gradually seeps through the track like ice melting slowly down a window pane in spring. The chord structure of Solange's original has still been kept intact, but here it ebbs and flows inn and out of earshot, played on a synthesizer brings to mind a strobe light whose battery is dying. Lines like "I'm dreaming of a time you knew me," cut even harder than before, and the entire piece comes off like a Dev Hynes transmission sent via radio from the dark side of the moon.

Kindness is currently out on a large-scale international tour, backed by a full band, and will play a long run of American dates next month. Check out his full tour dates below and listen to his brilliant cover below. "Some Things Never Seem To Fucking Work," but this one sure did.
