Killer Mike is keeping his Swag Shop locations closed, even as Brian Kemp, the governor of Georgia, is allowing barbershops and other businesses to reopen on Friday (April 24).

Killer Mike will not be reopening his Swag Shop barbershop in Atlanta, Georgia, despite the governor allowing barbershops and other businesses to reopen before the end of this week.

Speaking to TMZ, the rapper said that his Swag Shop locations will remain closed amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Our first concern is the safety of our employees and the safety of our customers," he said. "And we have an incentive to open, we could use that incentive, and we definitely wanna make money. [But] at this time, as a business, we aren't comfortable opening. We're gonna wait a while before we reopen."

"As a citizen in the community where people look like me, I'm choosing to stay closed because I don't want to endanger [anybody]," he added elsewhere during the interview. "And a lot of times, politicians have different views of things. I think governors and mayors should all get on the phone together because as your constituents, we need you to do that."

Earlier this week, Brian Kemp, the governor of Georgia, announced that gyms, hair salons, nail salons, barbershops, and bowling alleys will be able to reopen throughout the state. He also said that some restaurants and movie theaters can reopen on Monday (April 27) if they follow social distancing guidelines, as well as that the statewide shelter-in-place order will expire on April 30.

Kemp's announcement comes as COVID-19 cases continue to increase in the state. The Georgia Department of Public Health has confirmed 18,947 cases, 3,550 hospitalizations, and 733 deaths.
