Just when you thought Kanye West’s campaign was slowing down a bit, he has officially selected his running mate, Michelle Tidball.
West’s stakes are a bit high for the forthcoming November election, but he’s beat Joe Biden to the punch as the Democratic nominee still hasn’t announced his vice president for the ballots yet. According to a TMZ report Kanye has filed documents to be placed on the ballot in Arkansas, Tidball’s name appeared on the petition as his vice-presidential running mate.
As of yesterday, West missed the ballot deadlines for Nebraska, New York, and Maryland. Just last week, Tidball was also included on the Missouri ballot filing. At the moment, she hasn’t confirmed the filings. Yesterday, TMZ reported she was also added as VP on the documents for Vermont.
If you’re curious about how Tidball, the 57-year-old white woman, and West began their political partnership, the two met in Cody, Wyoming. She works at a dentist’s office and calls herself an “online prophet” since she teaches an online Bible study. Interestingly enough she charges $65 for a 50-minute one-on-one session reports The New Yorker.
A former colleague, Mary L. Keller, a scholar of religious studies at the University of Wyoming shared the following on Tidball, “The religious imagination is about the only thing that can provide language for drought, flood, fire. … I see Kanye and Michelle as the kinds of voices that people might turn to for a meaningful story in the face of climate change.”
Tidball and West appear to be an unlikely pairing. The road ahead is quite tumultuous if they plan on garnering enough signatures to land on the ballots of numerous states. To secure Arkansas, 1,000 signatures need to be submitted. The Kansas ballot will not include West’s name as he missed the deadline which required 5,000 signatures. He qualifies there as a write-in candidate.
The West campaign is currently working with a company Let Voters Decide to gather citizen signatures in important swing states including Ohio. His home state Illinois proved to be a recent issue, the validity of the submitted signatures was recently being investigated.
