West also expands on his ego and his new opera Mary.

Kanye West has recently rebranded himself as a Christian believer, his beliefs and religious concerts have pushed him yet again to the forefront of the rap conversation.

In a new interview with Vogue, the rapper shares a peak into his ongoing journey as a Christian believer. He also addresses his ego, his thoughts on being judged and more. Additionally, he touches on wanting to use his new opera to make music that is a "beacon of light."

On his ego:

"I thought I had it all figured out. [God has changed] everything, my ego... God put it all together. I’ll tell you what, when I don’t apply grace, I don’t get the results I’m looking for. Everything must be done with grace. That’s one of the things I pray for—and I need to pray for more."

On Christianity:

"A lot of times, people try to point out the flaws of people who are Christian. But always remember, Christians are not Christ. We fall short. We all fall short of the glory."

Later in the feature, the rapper touches on his upcoming opera, Mary and shares that it was originally titled Birth of Jesus.  He goes on to expand by noting that he thought it would be more interesting to tell the perspective of Mary rather than Jesus. The rapper also points out that the story of Mary took over his life for a bit of time.

Kanye’s focus on God came after becoming saved earlier this year. In the interview, he claims that he now chooses to surround himself with those who will push him in the right direction. He says, "You can pick your influences. I sought out to have Bible study, and to be around other Christians who could keep me accountable."
