Harris became the second black woman elected to the Senate in 2016.

During the fifth Democratic presidential debate on Wednesday, Joe Biden claimed that he had the endorsement of the "only" black woman who has ever been elected to the U.S. Senate.

The claim made it seem as if Biden had forgotten that Kamala Harris — standing a few feet away from him — had been elected to the U.S. Senate back in 2016, becoming the second black woman to do so.

Upon Biden making the remark, Harris immediately responded.

"Nope. That's not true. The other one is here," Harris said.

Who Biden was referring to was Carol Moseley Braun, who represented Illinois from 1993 to 1999 as a senator for the Democratic Party.

Harris referenced Biden's mess up on Twitter as well, posting: "Proud to be the second Black woman elected to the U.S. Senate."

In related news, back in August, Biden told a crowd in Iowa that “poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as white kids” while talking about discrimination faced by low-income students.

“We have this notion that somehow if you’re poor, you cannot do it. Poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as white kids,” Biden said.

Following reporting on the comment, Kate Bedingfield, Biden’s deputy campaign manager, said in a statement that Biden “misspoke and immediately corrected himself during a refrain he often uses to make the point that all children deserve a fair shot, and children born into lower-income circumstances are just as smart as those born to wealthy parents.”
