Jussie Smollett Hospitalized in Chicago After Reported Homophobic Attack

Chicago Police are investigating the incident as a possible hate crime.

Actor Jussie Smollett has been hospitalized and treated in Chicago after a violent attack late Monday night.

According to a report in TMZ, sources close to the “Empire” star say Smollett had landed in Chicago from New York at around 2 a.m. and went to a Subway restaurant. As he walked out, someone reportedly yelled homophobic and racist slurs at him.

TMZ reports two white men wearing ski masks violently attacked Smollett. The actor fought back, but was badly beaten and fractured a rib. The men also tied a rope around his neck, poured an unknown chemical substance on him, and yelled, “This is MAGA country.”

Smollett was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital after the attack and was discharged Tuesday morning.
