A spokesperson for Sting said the rumor that he was suing Juice WRLD for sampling his song was "simply untrue."

Sting has spoken about the unexpected passing of rapper Juice WRLD. The late rapper sampled Sting's 1993 hit "Shape of My Heart" for his 2018 breakout hit "Lucid Dreams."

"This is such a tragic loss for the world of music, a young life with so much potential and a unique and precious talent," the artist said to Billboard. "'Lucid Dreams' was my favorite of all the many interpolations of 'Shape of My Heart,' it will resonate for many years to come. My sincere condolences to the family."

He also denied rumors that he was suing Juice over his sampling of "Shape of My Heart," a spokesperson for the rock icon saying that it was "simply untrue."

Sting reportedly owns 85 percent of "Lucid Dreams," according to the song's producer Nick Mira. The Police frontman had previously spoken on his support of "Lucid Dreams," calling it a 'beautiful interpretation that is faithful to the original song's form." He had also said that the track will "put my grandkids through college."

Prior to his death, Juice was also facing a lawsuit against pop-punk band Yellowcard, who alleged that there were similarities between “Lucid Dreams” and their 2006 track “Holly Wood Died.”

The group is seeking $15 million in damages, co-ownership of “Lucid Dreams,” and a cut of the song’s royalties.

"Lucid Dreams" has since hit the No. 2 spot on Spotify's Top 200 chart following Juice's death. Since Monday, the song has received over 5.5 million streams – a more than 476% increase.
