“We loved Jarad with all of our hearts and cannot believe our time with him has been cut short,” Carmella Wallace, Juice’s mother, said to TMZ. “As he often addressed in his music and to his fans, Jarad battled with prescription drug dependency.”

“Addiction knows no boundaries and its impact goes way beyond the person fighting it,” she continued. “Jarad was a son, brother, grandson, friend and so much more to so many people who wanted more than anything to see him defeat addiction.”

Wallace then went to say she hopes Juice’s contributions will help others, saying:

“We hope the conversations he started in his music and his legacy will help others win their battles as that is what he wanted more than anything. We know that Jarad’s legacy of love, joy and emotional honesty will live on.”

Juice died at the age of 21 while on a plane flight from Los Angeles to Chicago this past Sunday. The rapper reportedly swallowed several Percocet pills upon landing when he learned federal agents were going to search the plane.

Sting, whose song “Shape of My Heart” is sampled in Juice’s hit song “Lucid Dreams,” recently mourned the rapper.

“This is such a tragic loss for the world of music, a young life with so much potential and a unique and precious talent,” the artist said. “‘Lucid Dreams’ was my favorite of all the many interpolations of ‘Shape of My Heart,’ it will resonate for many years to come. My sincere condolences to the family.”
