After over a month of speculation, Juice WRLD’s cause of death has been determined according to Cook County’s Medical Examiner’s Office.
Juice WRLD whose government name is Jarrad Higgins reportedly died due to oxycodone and codeine toxicity. An official tweet from the Office read, “The Medical Examiner’s Office has determined the cause and manner of death of 21-year-old Jarad A. Higgins. Higgins died as a result of oxycodone and codeine toxicity.” His death was also determined as an “accident.”
On December 8, Juice was pronounced dead at a local hospital following a seizure he experienced while at the Midway International Airport. He was traveling home from LA to celebrate his birthday. The rapper reportedly swallowed several Percocet pills when he found out federal agents were approaching to search his plane.
A few days following his death, his mother released a statement on his addiction issues:
“Addiction knows no boundaries and its impact goes way beyond the person fighting it. Jarad was a son, brother, grandson, friend and so much more to so many people who wanted more than anything to see him defeat addiction. We hope the conversations he started in his music and his legacy will help others win their battles as that is what he wanted more than anything. We know that Jarad’s legacy of love, joy and emotional honesty will live on.”
