It is no secret how much I adore Jorja Smith. For almost a year now, I have repeatedly tried to get her team to participate in our First Look Friday series, but to no avail. Why, you ask? Well, the electric soul singer has been building up her reputation as a force to be reckoned with by killing performances on both sides of the pond. Now, with her Project II EP and a few non-EP singles blaring out in the ears of her developing fans, she is set to breakthrough in the city that never sleeps, New York City.

With an unforgettable voice, a celebrated charm and an observation skill that would make Sherlock Holmes blink twice, this MOBO nominated winner brought her style to the only place that’s known to break an act in the Big Apple: SOBs. Yes, the place “where legends are made” chiseled another candidate for hall of fame status during Jorja Smith’s performance the other night (Jan. 22).

If you’re not familiar with Jorja Smith, don’t worry, here’s your late pass. Check out the highlights from her SOBs appearance in the gallery above and listen to her standout cut, “Blue Lights,” below. San Francisco, get ready, as Jorja is heading your way to perform at the Rickshaw Shop on Jan. 27. Cop your tickets here!
