Jon Stewart's New HBO Series Will Be An Animated Parody Of Cable News

This fall Jon Stewart will return to the world of news satire with a new show on HBO. And while principle alone leads us to believe that whatever Stewart brings to not-just-TV will be well worth the wait, Varietyis reporting that Stewart's return may not arrive in the way you'd once imagined. According to HBO programming president Casey Bloys' comments at a recent stop on the Television Critics Association’s press tour, Stewart's new gig will be an animated one, where he parodies cable news programs and networks, revolving around both short and long form pieces that will be distributed through the show and online as standalone bits.

And though this may not be the return you'd expected, it will arrive just in time for the 2016 election, potentially as soon as this September. And though no official date has been attached to the new show, his recent appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert proves he hasn't lost even a shred of edge, and is more than ready to make his official comeback alongside fellow Daily Show alum Jon Oliver on the premium cable network. Stay tuned for updates on Jon Stewart's new gig as details continue to make way in the weeks ahead.
