John Singleton To Produce Hip-Hop Angel Drama 'Straight Outta Heaven'

John Singleton-Directed BET Series 'Rebel' Will Highlight Black Police Officers

A new series called Rebel is coming to BET. The show follows the story of a police officer who leaves the force following shooting her partner in an attempt to stop him from shooting her brother and a subsequent Internal Affairs investigation. The show will highlight officers of color and their relationship to police violence, brutality, and misconduct. Danielle Moné Truitt will play the lead role of Rebel. The show is described as "a hard-hitting, gritty, complicated and morally ambiguous drama series, featuring many issues ripped from the headlines." The scripted drama will be directed and executively produced by John SingletonRandy Huggins and Dallas Jackson are also executive producers on the show. The show also stars Giancarlo Esposito (Lieutenant Charles Gold), Mykelti Williamson(Rene Knight), CliffMethod Man” Smith (TJ), LaTanya Richardson (Detective Traylynn Jones), and Brandon Quinn (Mack). Jill Scott composed the music for the pilot. Rebel is produced by MarVista Entertainment.
