Jhene Aiko Takes MTV Grocery Shopping In New Video
Jhene Aiko is owning much of the summer R&B scene (radio-wise, at the very least) with a certain lyric in a certain Omarion song that you’ve probably already heard. Inspired by that line, MTV took the songstress shopping for, yes, groceries at a market in Manhattan, where she shared some of her personal preferences for food and thoughts on the metaphorical wisdom of affirming to the world that “booty is like life.”
Hosted by MTV’s Rob Markman (who himself can’t seem to believe his great luck at going shopping for yams and bananas with such a talented, lovely woman), the short clip reveals that Jhene Aiko never takes herself or her lyrics too seriously. “I say ‘You gotta,’ but you don’t. You don’t gotta, you don’t have to..” (Also it becomes apparent that Jhene enjoys a bit of salt on her watermelon, which sounds all kinds of crazy to us.) Aiko says as she pushes her shopping cart up the pasta sauce aisle. Aiko was most recently heard lending featured vocals to Hudson Mohawke’s latest single “Resistance,” and her much-anticipated follow-up to 2014’s Souled Out is still on its way. Watch the video below and be on the lookout for more from Aiko in the coming months.
