Jermaine Dupri Doesn’t Think a 'Verzuz' Battle Against Diddy Is Happening

In a new podcast interview on New Rory and Mal, Jermaine Dupri shares details on a Verzuz battle with Diddy.

The last time we checked in, Jermaine Dupri challenged Diddy to a Verzuz battle, now he’s sharing more of his thoughts on the potential event.

Months ago when the So So Def founder tweeted about his idea to square up with his producer peer, he was haughty, but, Diddy didn’t feel that the match was equal. Instead Diddy immediately responded by sharing he’d like to battle against Dr. Dre. In a new podcast interview alongside Rory and Mal, Dupri said he felt the battle’s energy would be off.

“I feel like it’s a performance-based thing now and the majority of Puff’s records, who’s gonna perform?,” Dupri said. “Yeah, [you can bring out] The LOX, but you can’t have nobody do Big’s verses! And I don’t know that Mase would come out with him no more, so I don’t think that it would happen based on that. All my people, we rockin’ and we coming’ with a whole lot of energy!”

During another part of the episode, Dupri centered on So So Def’s catalog mainly Bow Wow’s contributions.  “Puff—and anybody else that thinks about this battle—they try to downplay the Bow Wow era,” he said.  “When we get into the 2001, 2002, 2003 era of So So Def, I don’t know that Bad Boy was even in existence… I never seen a Bad Boy record No. 1 on 106 & Park.”

Dupri's original tweet to Diddy which followed the Fat Joe vs. Ja Rule Verzuz event at Madison Square Garden he shared: "Somebody let @Diddy know I’m @thegarden right now ! And he gon need some training for me."

Diddy responded by tweeting he'd defeat Dupri solely with Biggie and Mary J. Blige tracks.

Within a few days of Diddy's response, Dupri said in an interview on V-103 Atlanta that he's included in the Songwriters Hall of Fame, while Diddy is not (shots fired). "I just want to make sure everybody understands this. I am in the Songwriters Hall of Fame. I am in the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Puff Daddy’s not in the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Steve Stoute and the Trackmasters are not in the Hall of Fame."

Only time will tell if a battle ever happens between the two, but it's clear Dupri has put a lot of energy into preparing in case he gets a call from Swizz Beatz and Timbaland.
