Jay Z's Kalief Browder Docuseries To Premiere At Sundance 2017

Jay Z's Kalief Browder documentary series TIME: The Kalief Browder Story will be having its world premiere at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival.

A synopsis of the series (courtesy of the Sundance website) as is follows:

"After his arrest at age 16, Kalief Browder fought the system and prevailed, despite unthinkable circumstances. He became an American hero. The Festival will debut the first two episodes of this in-depth, humanizing look at a broken justice system, followed by an extended Q&A."

Considering Jay Z has played an integral part in the production of the series, he will likely be in attendance for both the screening and the Q&A, but we will see what happens.

TIME: The Kalief Browder Story was announced a couple of months back, when Jay Z signed a two year film and television production deal with The Weinstein Company.

"Kalief Browder is a modern-day prophet; his story a failure of the judicial process," Jay Z said during a press conference. "A young man, and I emphasize young man, who lost his life because of a broken system. His tragedy has brought atrocities to light and now we must confront the issues and events that occurred so other young men can have a chance at justice."

"The story on the evening news created a lot of attention and action around Kalief Browder, but it wasn't the whole story. If Kalief Browder's life matters then his whole life matters, and that's how we have been approaching this project," director Jenner Furst added.

Time: The Kalief Browder Story is set to air as a six part series beginning in January on Spike TV. The episodes will feature dramatic reenactments of the young man’s life, archival footage, as well as interviews with family and friends.

Among other movies that will be premiering at Sundance next year include films on Michael Brown, Roxanne Shanté and Winnie Mandela, as well as Flying Lotus' debut feature film Kuso.

The 2017 Sundance Film Festival begins on January 19 to January 29, at Park City, Utah.
