JAY-Z‘s scholarship foundation is sending students on a black college tour.
The Shawn Carter Foundation is teaming up with Toyota for an HBCU tour with select high-achieving students this week. The students are set to visit 11 historically black colleges and universities, where they’ll be able to meet with college admissions counselors and past Shawn Carter Foundation scholars.
According to Vibe, over 125 schools in New York and New Jersey were invited to participate in college prep workshops leading up to the tour. ACT/SAT prep sessions will take place in September, along with resume-building and dressing for success workshops.
Jay-Z’s mother Gloria Carter and Howard University alumni, radio personality Angie Ange and Creative Writing M.F.A. candidate and Candice Wong are all slated to be involved in the 2019 Shawn Carter Foundation College Bus Tour, with a stop at Howard.
The Shawn Carter Foundation was founded by JAY-Z and his mother in 2003, in an effort to provide grants to, as stated on the official site, to “empower youth and communities in need.”
