Janelle Monae‘s adding another acting credit to her resumé. Today, The Wrap reports that The Funky Android has been cast alongside Octavia Spencer and Taraji P. Henson in the new film, Hidden Figures, which chronicles the integral contributions of three black women that worked for NASA during the development and proliferation of the Friendship 7 mission, putting John Glenn into the Earth’s orbit as the first American to do so.
The role marks her first major studio role, though certainly not her first overall, having just wrapped up the production of Moonlight, produced by Brad Pitt. We’ve yet to receive a definitive timeline on the film’s release, but as with many big studio productions, you can expect filming to commence imminently. We look forward to the world being just as captivated by Janelle Monáe on the big screen as they have been on-stage or on-record and hope this is just the next step in her entertainment biz takeover. We’ll keep an extra-attentive eye on the situation, so be sure to check back with us for updates on the film in the weeks and months to come.
