Jamie Foxx stars as The President of the United States in White House Down – the latest film from director Roland Emmerich, most noted for the 1996 blockbuster Independence Day. The film co-stars Channing Tatum as an off-duty police officer who responds in the midst of crisis to protect his daughter and the president after the White House is besieged by a heavily armed para-military group. The siege begins while Tatum and his daughter are on a tour of the iconic presidential mansion. The film also stars Maggie Gyllenhaal, James Woods and Joey King. Keep your eyes peeled for more from Roland Emmerich. The director recently announced plans to follow the 17-year old Independence Day with ID Forever Part 1 and ID Forever Part II – a pair of films expanding upon the original storyline that found U.S. citizens in a ground war with alien invaders. The films begin twenty years after the original when a distress call put out by the aliens finally brings reinforcements to earth. The films are co-written with Dean Devlin and James Vanderbilt – writer of White House Down. No word on when the duo of follow-up films is slated to arrive. White House Down is scheduled to open in the U.S. on June 28th. Check the trailer below.
